This position branched off from CIOs as a result of a growing need for a distinction of the two in larger businesses. CTOs have a wide range of skills & knowledge in many areas of tech, their roles are constantly expanding within businesses, being regularly expected to keep up with the newest technological advances whilst providing strong leadership and advice. As almost every company becomes a technology company in some way, shape, or form, the demand for knowledgeable individuals in this field is continuously rising. All in all, CTOs are highly regarded and can expect to earn high salaries and benefits because of this. After ten years, CTOs can expect to make about US$176,083 a year, and continue enjoying an increasing salary after twenty years, where the average total compensation is US$203,082. CTO Salary in West Coast USA Like any other region, CTO average salary varies widely from state to state and region to region. The west-coast tends to experience the greatest varieties, where the more northern states make higher average salaries, and the southern states make lower average salaries. Still, CTOs in this general region can expect to make an average of US$162,665 a year. At the entry-level, chief technology officers make about US$100,794, which rises to US$113,687 after a year’s experience.
